March update
Published 14:39 on 28 Mar 2024
We are all looking forward to the Easter Long weekend. A friendly reminder the club will not be staffed this weekend.
"Try Sailing and Paddling" Days - call for volunteers Building participation remains a priority of the club so we are keen to build up awareness of what our club has to offer and are running regular open days to promote both our sailing and paddling activities. Many thanks to the Finn and B14 sailors for volunteering for the last "Try Sailing" day with about 40 people having a sail. We are keen to for volunteers for the next "Try Sailing and Paddling event" events on 14 April and 26 May (Sundays 10am to 12noon).
Social Paddling We would love to get our paddling members together for a morning paddle then have you join us after for some morning tea and light refreshments. Sunday May 5th at 7am with morning tea to be served at 9am. Club kayaks register here
Adult learn to sail sessions We are running sessions for people who have some sailing skills and are learning to sail independently. These new sailors are very keen and support from club members to help them along their sailing journey is very rewarding and much appreciated. If you are keen or know a sailor who is not interested in racing but would be keen to get out on the water and involved in teaching sailing, let me know. Diane [email protected]
Life Memberships Please join the presentation of Life Memberships to the following deserving members: Victor Friezer (the club's first Commodore), Ross Barratt and Stan Bland on Sunday 7 April at 10am - before the Marathon. Unfortunately, our 91 year old guest of honour was unwell, so this was rescheduled. The presentation is at 10am followed by morning tea in the club café area. Free. RSVP. Any member can propose a life member (including posthumously) which is then approved by the Board and voted by the membership at a general meeting.
Clean Up our Club Event The end of season clean-up day is proposed for Sunday 5 May at 10am. Please let me know if you would be willing to help coordinate this event or like to volunteer register here.
Australian Sailing: Our governing body lobbies on behalf of the sailing community and clubs like ours. Recent issues raised include: - lifting restrictions on windsurfers in the harbour, particular events such as foiling racing - proliferate of permanent moorings in the harbour - increase number of boats in temporary moorings, especially powerboats, which both take up space and create additional wake - increasing number of boats on moorings in the harbour that are inactive - requested Australian Sailing to follow up our campaign with the Council to have space to run large sailing events.
If you have other issues impacting access on the harbour, please let us know.
