The 2021 Optimist NSW State Championships were held at the Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club over the weekend of the 20th and 21st of March.
Despite road-closures on the way to the regatta and torrential rain throughout the weekend, 6 races were completed and the event was a great success. Our young club sailors displayed great determination and enthusiasm despite the testing conditions! It was a terrific team to be representing the club!
Out of the 86 sailors entered in the event and a total of 11 clubs across NSW. Woollahra Sailing Club made up a 1/3 of the sailors having a total of 27 sailors compete. It was a huge achievement to have the most participants in the regatta, a proud feat credit to the quality and record numbers of the sailing programs seen during the last terms.
On the intermediate fleet Alice Holstein finished 2nd best girl, with Saxon Foggo and Walter Heeley taking the 3rd and 2nd overall place respectively.
For the open fleet Stirling Mackay took the first under 10 years, Tika Macmaster and Hanako Tomishima taking 3rd and 2nd best girls respectively. Finally Spencer Mackay displaying a very consistent performance finishing 2nd overall and being crowned as the 2021 Optimist NSW State Champion.
Our club would like to congratulate all of our 27 club young sailors, their families for their great support. Special thanks to coach Alex Zimmermann and Ryan Littlechild for their brilliant work!
