The WSC Tackers program is a fun, introductory sailing program designed specifically for children aged 7 to 12 years. Delivered by Australian Sailing qualified instructors the accredited Tackers program focuses on learning to sail in a safe, supportive, and games-based environment.

Key Features:

  • No prior experience needed: This program is for complete beginners, new sailors must be competent in swimming 25m in a life jacket.
  • Small boats: Children sail in small, easy-to-handle boat called Optis (Optimists) Sailors start out sharing a boat with a crew and once confident enough they will captain their own boat.
  • Team focus: Most of the early learning is done in pairs to encourage teamwork and reduce fear.
  • Games-based learning: Skills are taught through play, games, and fun challenges, both on and off the water

Program Levels:

  1. Tackers 1 Having Fun: Introduction to sailing, focusing on basic skills and water confidence.
  2. Tackers 2 Tricks & Techniques: Builds on the basics with more sailing techniques and independence.
  3. Tackers 3 Sailing Fast: Focuses on refining skills, sailing solo, and preparing for club-level participation.
