The WSC Tackers program is a fun, introductory sailing program designed specifically for children aged 7 to 12 years. Delivered by Australian Sailing qualified instructors the accredited Tackers program focuses on learning to sail in a safe, supportive, and games-based environment.
Key Features:
- No prior experience needed: This program is for complete beginners, new sailors must be competent in swimming 25m in a life jacket.
- Small boats: Children sail in small, easy-to-handle boat called Optis (Optimists) Sailors start out sharing a boat with a crew and once confident enough they will captain their own boat.
- Team focus: Most of the early learning is done in pairs to encourage teamwork and reduce fear.
- Games-based learning: Skills are taught through play, games, and fun challenges, both on and off the water
Program Levels:
- Tackers 1 Having Fun: Introduction to sailing, focusing on basic skills and water confidence.
- Tackers 2 Tricks & Techniques: Builds on the basics with more sailing techniques and independence.
- Tackers 3 Sailing Fast: Focuses on refining skills, sailing solo, and preparing for club-level participation.
Tackers is aimed at creating lifelong enjoyment of sailing, promoting water safety, and encouraging an active outdoor lifestyle for children.
