Our Sunday Tackers will open for booking once we have enough interest to run the class (ie 5 children in each level) our programs are confirmed to run Wednesday afternoon and Saturdays. We will contact you before start of term with confirmation either way.
Tackers is a fun introductory, games-based sailing program designed for kids aged 7-11 yrs. Kids don't need to have any sailing experience or club membership to participate. All the equipment, including the boats, is provided. Our instructors are qualified by Australian Sailing, our governing sporting body.
The Tackers program is delivered in a specially designed Tackers training boat which is super safe for kids. The boats allow two kids to sail together and as they gain confidence and move up from Tackers 1 to Tackers 2 they are able to sail the boat alone. The boats have built-in buoyancy which means they provide extra stability.
Some ability to swim is preferable as during Tackers 1 the instructors supervise the group in a 25m swim with their lifejackets on, however they will be wearing lifejackets at all times.
Our learn to sail pathway
The Tackers pathway includes:
- Tackers 1 is the first level of Tackers and is perfect for kids with little or no experience in sailing. Tackers 1 Sailors begin by sailing in pairs and learning the basics of sailing and boat safety.
- Tackers 2 is the second level of Tackers and is designed to build on skills from Tackers 1 and transition sailors into sailing by themselves.
- Tackers 3 is the third level of Tackers and is focused on learning how to sail fast through games and adventure on the water.
