Woollahra Sailing Club acknowledges that we are on the land of the Birrabirragal people, the traditional custodians of the land. We pay our respects to Elders past, present and emerging.
Green Adventure and Green Fleet are club based junior (primary school age) sailing activity for kids who have completed the Tackers Programme (all 3 levels) or a similar junior learn to sail program. Like many sports, sailing recognises that primary school age kids are more likely to enjoy, and be retained in sport, if it is less competitive and more fun/games based and social. Green Adventure is for students who enjoy sailing and want to develop their skills in a fun environment. Many Green Adventure students progress to Green Fleet racing when they are a bit older and/or more confident. Green Fleet is for students who are ready to learn the skills of dinghy racing. The focus is still on fun and this is enhanced by learning the new skills associated with racing.
Green Adventure is designed for sailors who have completed Tackers 3 and would like to further progress their sailing skills without the competitive aspects of racing. We use a more relaxed teaching structure to further develop each sailors' independence and sailing knowledge with a fun, games based and social approach. The children will be provided boats by the Club which they will learn to rig independently, they will then further enhance their safe boat handling skills and knowledge by taking to the waters of Rose Bay and around Shark Island.
Progression: Sailors can move from Green Adventure to Green Fleet at any time. The next stage is joining the WSC Academy Optimist Performance Program to build skills and engage in formal racing. A level of competency is required. From Green Adventure sailors can also choose to progress to either ILCA (Laser) Green fleet or the Teens Out There Sailing program if they enjoy recreational sailing and have outgrown the optimist boat.
