The foiling week™ is the first and only global event dedicated to the amazingly fast foiling boats, their sailors, designers and builders.

The foiling week is the place where the foiling community meet and discuss. And sail and have fun. Over time the community is growing and the place is becoming borderless. They are proud of the foiling sailors, designers and builders that have shared their experiences so far.

The Foiling Week™ , now reaching the 4th year, is expanding again offering more events and richer programs. The first and only series of global events dedicated to the amazingly fast foiling boats, their sailors and designers is heading to destinations in Europe, USA, South America and Australia.

The 2018 Foiling Week Sydney Harbour regatta will be held on Sydney Harbour from Thursday 11 to Sunday 14 January 2018.

The official venue for the Regatta will be Woollahra Sailing Club, Rose Bay, Sydney. The Organising Authority is Woollahra Sailing Club:

1. Rules

  1. 1.1.  The Regatta will be governed by the ‘rules’ as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing.
  2. 1.2.  No national prescriptions will apply.
  3. 1.3.  Sydney Harbour control regulations laid down by the RMS (Maritime) Authority will apply. These areavailable on the 2018 Foiling Week Sydney Harbour website, available via www.woollahrasailingclub.org.au,and in the Sailing Instructions.
  4. 1.4.  If there is conflict between languages the English text will take precedence.

2. Advertising and Identification

  1. 2.1.  Competitors may be required to display Event sponsor’s name(s)/logo(s) and numbers. If required, the Organising Authority will supply these items and they shall be affixed as prescribed in the Sailing Instructions.
  2. 2.2.  Competitors may be required to wear Organising Authority supplied racing bibs.
  3. 2.3.  The Organising Authority reserves the right to refuse advertising by a boat or competitor when it conflictswith the laws of the New South Wales and / or Australian governments.

3. Eligibility and Entry

  1. 3.1.  All competitors shall be a current member of a World Sailing Member National Authority.
  2. 3.2.  Competitors shall be a current member of their Class Association if such Association exists.
  3. 3.3.  The regatta is open to all classes listed at Attachment A.
  4. 3.4.  Competitors shall enter by completing the on-line entry form on the 2018 Foiling Week Sydney Harbourwebsite. Entries must be received no later than 4 January 2018. Entries may be accepted after this date atthe discretion of the Organising Authority, but may be subject to an AUD $50 late entry fee.
  1. 3.4.  Eligibility for age divisions shall be determined by the competitor’s age at 31 December 2018.
  2. 3.5.  Classes not listed at Attachment A may apply to be included in the schedule. The Organising Authority’sdecision to allocate entrants to classes shall be final.
  3. 3.6.  All entries, together with the entry fee, Code of Conduct and parental consent (where relevant) shall bemade to the Organising Authority via the online entry system by the closing date for entries.
  4. 3.7.  The Organising Authority reserves the right to combine fleets of compatible classes.

4. Fees

Entry fees are:

  • Single handed boats. AUD $150.00
  • Two handed boats. AUD $210.00
  • Three or more handed boats. AUD $390.00

5. Schedule of Events and race format

  1. 5.1.  Registration for the event will be conducted online as part of the entry process.
  2. 5.2.  Any change of details will be done electronically via the 2018 Foiling Week Sydney Harbour website.
  3. 5.3.  The schedule of races will be set out in the Sailing Instructions.
  4. 5.4.  The maximum number of races for each class is outlined in the Event Schedule.
  5. 5.5.  The first warning signal for any fleet will not be made before 1100hrs on their first scheduled day of racing.
  1. MeasurementRandom measurement checks and inspections may be carried out at any time. A boat notified of inspection shall follow the instructions of the Race Committee.
  2. Sailing instructionsSailing Instructions will only be available at the 2018 Foiling Week Sydney Harbour website from 23rd December 2017.
  3. Venue & CoursesThe host club is Woollahra Sailing Club. The racing areas are shown at Attachment B. The format, courses to be sailed and the class allocation to the racing areas will be detailed in the Sailing Instructions. Classes may be divided into groups for racing. The decision of the Organising Authority shall be final.
  4. Safety Equipment
  1. 9.1.  Competitors are to wear, at all times while afloat, a Personal Flotation Device (PFD) in accordance with EC specifications, or to a minimum Australian standard of 50S or the International Standard PFD ISO124025-5 Buoyancy Aid 50.
  2. 9.2.  Excepting the Moth, Waszp and Windsurf Foil classes all boats are to carry a floating towrope of (minimum) 15 metres length and 6mm diameter.
  3. 9.3.  Multihulls are to carry an operable righting line of (minimum) 4 metres length and 10mm diameter.
  4. 9.4.  It is recommended that all competitors wear a suitable helmet.

10. Penalty System

  1. 10.1.  For all entrants RRS 44.1 and 44.2 are changed so that the Two-Turns penalty is replaced by a One-Turn penalty.
  2. 10.2.  The Organising Authority reserves the right to use alternative penalty systems.

  2. Scoring
  1. 12.1.  Three races are required to be completed to constitute a series.
  2. 12.2.  When fewer than four races have been completed, a boat’s series score will be the total of her race scores.
  3. 12.3.  When four or more races have been completed, a boat’s series score will be the total of her race scoresexcluding her worst score.
  4. 12.4.  When eight or more races have been completed, a boat’s series score will be the total of her race scoresexcluding her two worst scores.
  5. 12.5.  Divisions within fleets will be scored using the overall fleet placings.

13. Support Boats

  1. 13.1.  The Organising Authority recommends that all support boats be fitted with a propeller guard.
  2. 13.2.  All international support and coach boats intending to go afloat on Sydney Harbour, NSW shall comply with the RMS (Maritime) Authority safety requirements available at www.rms.nsw.gov.au/maritime/index.html

14. Radio Communication

Except in an emergency, a boat shall neither make radio transmission whilst racing nor receive radio communications not available to all boats. This restriction also applies to mobile telephones.

  1. PrizesPrizes for each class in the 2018 Foiling Week Sydney Harbour regatta will be presented as detailed in the Sailing Instructions.
  2. Disclaimer of LiabilityIt is the responsibility of owners and skippers to ensure that each boat nominated on the entry form complies with the ‘rules’ as defined in the RRS.All competitors who enter the Regatta, in doing so, have made a declaration to the Organising Authority that the nominated boat will, at all times while racing, comply with the requirements of World Sailing, the Notice of Race and Sailing Instructions, including:
    1. (a)  The Organising Authority is not responsible for the seaworthiness of a boat whose entry is accepted or the sufficiency or adequacy of its equipment;
    2. (b)  The person who signs and lodges the entry form with the Organising Authority, warranting to the Organising Authority that he or she will draw to the attention of any person who competes on the yacht, the subject of the entry form in any event conducted by the Organising Authority of the risk warning above;
    3. (c)  the person who signs and lodges this entry form with the Organising Authority, acknowledging receipt of the risk warning below and releasing the Organising Authority from any claim or liability whatsoever for any harm or personal injury suffered by him, or by any person claiming through him, in any event conducted by the Organising Authority; and
    4. (d)  All those taking part in these races do so at their own risk and responsibility. Specific attention is drawn to RRS 4 which states; “The responsibility for a boat’s decision to participate in a race or to continue racing is hers alone”. The Organising Authority, Race Committees and other race officials are not responsible for any damage or injury either afloat or ashore prior to, during or after the event.
  3. Risk WarningThis RISK WARNING is issued jointly by the Organising Authority and RMS (Maritime), pursuant to the Civil Liability Act 2002 to all persons wishing to participate in the 2018 Foiling Week Sydney Harbour regatta.Participants are warned that, regardless of the precautions, which might be taken by reasonable and experienced persons, sailing can be a dangerous pursuit and participants are exposed to significant risk of property damage, physical harm and possibly death.As an indication, these risks may include, but are not limited to:
    1. (a)  The extremes of weather and sea conditions.
    2. (b)  The potential that control of vessels may be lost, resulting in collision with objects and other vessels.
    3. (c)  The sudden movement of the vessel at any time and the possibility that participants may fall or be thrown overboard, resulting in drowning.
    4. (d)  The possibility that participants may be injured by equipment on the vessel.
    5. (e)  The absence of immediate medical care and the likelihood that significant delays may occur before medical care is available.
    6. (f)  Exposure to the elements for extended periods.

    The Organising Authority and RMS (Maritime) also warn participants that regardless of their best intentions, they may be unable to render assistance to participants who are in distress. Participants are warned to consider the above risks and all other risks before deciding to participate in any sailing event in the 2018 Foiling Week Sydney Harbour regatta.

18. Insurance

  1. 18.1.  Each participating boat shall present a valid insurance certificate showing proof of third-party liability coverage of at least AUD $5,000,000 (recommended AUD $10,000,000) (or equivalent) per incident.
  2. 18.2.  Competitors will be required to supply insurance details as part of the online entry. Any competitor not holding this cover shall withdraw their entry.
  1. Rights To Use Name And LikenessIn participating a competitor automatically grants to the Organising Authority and The Foiling Week the right in perpetuity, to make, use and show, from time to time and at their discretion, any motion pictures, still pictures and live, taped or film television and other reproductions of him/her during the period of the competition in which the competitor participates and in all material related to the 2018 Foiling Week Sydney Harbour without compensation.
