New ramp

We have exciting news. Your Club is about to start work on the new ramp!

The new ramp will be twice as wide, twice as long and half the gradient. In addition, we are constructing a pontoon on the western end of the ramp that will assist with rib access and reduce wave disturbance when launching and returning to the ramp. It’s going to be great!
The construction of the ramp is a major project, costing $1.2 million dollars and will take three months to complete. The NSW Roads and Maritime Service is contributing $800,000 to the project and the Club must fund the balance.
To meet the balance, the Club is calling for donations. Please consider donating and ask your friends to do the same. Donating is easy through the Australian Sports Foundation website: Simply click here to donate. See below for more details.

Who benefits

Everyone! From learn to sail to Olympic champions. The ramp is a public asset available to all for non-commercial use.
The ramp provides water access for kids and adults utilising sailing dinghies, skiffs, kayaks, canoes, paddle boards and more. On average there are over 2000 movements on and off the ramp per week. The Club hosts local, state, national and international sailing regattas, swim and paddle events.
Access to the ramp is provided to school children, visiting water sports users, Club members and more.
With the new ramp we are hoping to more than double the use of the ramp and encourage a wider range of users including support for disability programs and more educational programs.

  • Site setup from 1 May 2019.
  • Current ramp closed from 6 May 2019.
  • Target completion before end August 2019.

Access to the water

While the ramp is being constructed there will be no direct access from the Club to the water via the current ramp.  The alternate access will be from the beach or the Cranbrook sailing ramp via Vickery Ave.

Thanks to Cranbrook

The Cranbrook school have very kindly made their ramp available for our use.  Please be considerate when using the Cranbrook ramp.  Please do not leave cars, trailers or boat dollies on the ramp or on the road.  Those using the ramp do so at their own risk and if they are injured Cranbrook is no way responsible for this occurring.

Winter series

Winter series racing will proceed on a limited (one per month) schedule. Please see the notice of race for full details.

More detail

The approved engineering drawings are available for your reference.  The key features of the new development are:

  1. The ramp is much wider and longer.
  2. At low tide the lower edge of the ramp will be at least 1.5 metres below the water.
  3. The floating pontoon can be used by ribs, dinghies, wind surfers, kayaks etc.
  4. The pontoon includes wave reduction capability to stop most swell from the west and north west.
  5. The pontoon is angled away from the ramp to allow clear access to the ramp.
  6. The pontoon has easy access from the land by all users including wheel chairs.
