WSC Hose rack
The hose rack is there for all members to use. If the hose is not coiled after use it encroaches on the yard, creates an obstacle and becomes hard to use. Ensure the hose is coiled after use and the water is turned off at the tap – don’t rely on the trigger of the hose gun.
Good luck to all Woollahra members competing overseas
Over the next few weeks a number of Woollahra members are competing overseas at Kiel week, the 420 world championships in Vilamoura Portugal, the ISAF youth world championship in Poland, and the Laser world championships in Japan. We wish them good luck and fair breeze.
Kiel Week – Germany:
From 22 to 30 June, more than three million visitors from all over the world will be diving into the colourful life of Kiel in Germany. Around 2.000 events in areas of culture, sailing, summer festival, entertainment, science, politics, industry and sport come together to form a maritime symphony. Visitors are promised nine days of high spirits in the far North.
420 World Championships – Portugal
From 3 to 11 July, renowned as a proven venue for numerous sailing Championships, Vilamoura, on Portgual’s south coast, is set to welcome the world’s best 420 sailors across the three racing divisions.
- 2017 420 World Championships – is open to teams of all ages. Each nation is entitled to 7 boats, with 14 boats for the host nation.
- 2017 420 Ladies World Championships – is open to teams of all ages. Each nation is entitled to 7 boats, with 14 boats for the host nation.
- 2017 U17 420 World Championship – is restricted to athletes aged 16 and under at the end of 2017. Each 420 National Class Association is entitled to enter 6 boats (3 boats men or mixed and 3 boats ladies) and the host NCA entitled to 12 boats (6 boats men or mixed and 6 boats ladies);
SAF youth world championship – Poland
Since the inaugural championships in Sweden in 1971, the Youth Sailing World Championships has gone from strength to strength and has established an impressive legacy.
Youth Sailing World Championships will be in Gdynia, Poland this year from 13 to 20 July.
Announcing the appointment of Manager and Coach of WSC’s Junior Sailing Programme
Woollahra Sailing Club is very pleased to announce that Alex Zimmerman has been appointed as Manager and Coach of the Club’s new Junior Sailing Programme. Alex will join Dan Smith (our Club Sailing Manager and 5 x Olympic 470 Coach, and World Youth Championship Coach) in developing our Junior and Youth programmes. Alex is well known across the Australian and International Optimist Dinghy community and is a three times Sailing World Champion. He is widely regarded in all states of Australia as having a unique ability to help talented children progress from absolute beginner to a highly competitive level. He regularly coaches at international events with the Australian Optimist Sailing Team. This includes: World Championships, European Champs, Asian & Oceania’s Champs, South American Champs and North American Champs. Alex joins us having just completed a 3 year period as State Head Coach in South Australia. In that role he developed some great Optimist Sailors who have recently qualified to represent Australia. Prior to that Alex was Optimist Class Head Coach at Fremantle Sailing Club and WA Optimists Head Coach from 2014 to 2016.

Xmas in July/Summer series prize giving
Sun 28 Jul 2019 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm. Come and join fellow members and friends this July at Woollahra Sailing Club for ‘Christmas in July’. A festive event including a winter feast, some Christmas tunes, and a presentation for the Summer Series of Sailing. This is also an opportunity to see the progress being made to the new ramp which will be nearing completion by then.

2019 NSW & ACT Sailing Awards Finalists Released
With a record year of nominations across all categories, Australian Sailing announced the finalists of the 2019 New South Wales & ACT Sailing Awards. Woollahra members have been nominated in many categories.
Nominations came from clubs all across New South Wales and the ACT.
Winners will be announced on Saturday 6th July at the 2019 New South Wales & ACT Sailing Awards at Cruising Yacht Club of Australia.
