WSC Race Skills Squad

Our Race Skills Squad program is designed for Teens and Adults who have solid sailing skills and are ready to start learning to race. Bring your own boat or a Club Pacer, 420 or ILCA (Lasar) dinghy provided. Sessions run on Sunday mornings from 8.30am to 12noon.Details here of how to get started on your sailing journey.

Members only course - free first year of junior membership included for under 18s, joining fee waived for new adults.

Sailors are expected to have completed Tackers 3, OutThere Sailing Competencies or Adult Pacer Pathway Program. This program will include lots of fun, short races, right of way rules, build skills for starting, mark rounding, boat speed. The syllabus is consistent with Australian Sailing's Start Racing and Better Racing with the eventual goal for sailors to join in club racing. Sailors can spend as much time in the Race Skills Squad as they like and have the option to progress to our 420 or 29er Development squads as well as continue as club racers.

WSC Coached Racing

Progress from Race Skills Squad to Coached Racing. We offer coached racing in our club pacers - this is open to all members who have either completed the race skills squad program, moved up from the Opti advanced squad, has prior racing experience or has been assessed as ready by one of our club instructors. If you are not sure whether this is for you, please get in touch.

You are welcome to join the program in a pair or on your own as we can match you up with another sailor. You will race with the WSC General Fleet with the aim of progressing to complete at least 1 race. You will need to comply with all the safety and requirements of racing including sign on and off the water each day.

Schedule:

12:30pm - Club Racing Briefing You are responsible for rigging your own boat but are always able to ask for help from your coach.

1:00pm - Coaching begins with a group briefing

1:30pm - First racing signal

4:00pm - Session end

Format

8 x 3hr sessions and boat hire
