2019 Bondi Outrigger Canoe Club Regatta 2/3 November

Woollahra Sailing Club was pleased to host again the Bondi Outrigger Canoe Club Regatta on Saturday the 2nd and Sunday the 3rd of November.
The event brought over 360 competitors to the Club in a range of Outrigger Canoes.  It was a spectacular event that involved WSC and the outriggers together to delivery another high quality show in the Sydney Harbour.

Paddling news

Proud member of the Shark Island Paddlers and the WSC, Tom Jones was remembered Saturday 2 November 2019, with a tree planting assisted by Woollahra Council.  Tom was a former board member of the WSC and passed away just after ANZAC day this year on 27 April.  A small group including Tom’s widow Sally, and son’s Charlie and Eddie assisted in the planting of a beautiful Angophora just outside the club and adjacent to the new ramp.  The angophora is smooth barked, and should grow to a lovely pink or rose hue and will have pale green foliage.  It’s a grand tree and as Bruce Moller said, it will be a great place to have a chat to Tom as the years pass.

The past few weeks have seen a lot of racing including the 2019 Bondi to Rose Bay Ocean Race which was utterly smashed into submission by HM battleship Tommy Woodriff.  Tommy came first in very tricky conditions and daylight was second with a margin of 2 minutes and 27 seconds to the next finisher.

Just prior to the Bondi to Rose Bay Ocean Race, the Shaw and Partners North Bondi Surf Ski Classic was run on 19 October 2019.  The race was hotly contested with a large field of WSC paddling members finishing strongly.

The next events on the horizon are the Lion Island Challenge on Sunday 17 November 2019, and the 20 Beaches Ocean Classic on Saturday 7 December 2019.  See you there.
