Ramp development

Today the first two section of the new ramp were installed.  This marks a significant achievement for our Club.  Much work has gone into the project to get it to this stage, including: demolition, waste removal, building the foundations, installation of 27 screw piles (ramp), 7 timber piles (wave break), and 4 steel piles (pontoon), new sandstone wall, construction of a dozen ramp sections, concrete retaining walls, concrete pours and more.

Our Commodore, General Manager and Construction Manager were there to celebrate this moment together and to discuss about last steps before the delivery of the new launching ramp.

Paddling News

A wet week has transpired. It has been cold, miserable, and fraught with southerly winds and bluster.  Yet amidst this inclemency we are seeing the rise, or rather the laying down of a new and rather smooth looking ramp to assist our entry into the harbour.  And much joy and cheer has entered our hearts, as our paddlers love a smooth surface.  Whether it be an entry ramp or the mirror like harbour at dawn or the glossy gel coating on the massed skis of the WSC paddlers – we love it.  This week’s training sessions have not however been smooth – they have been hard, damn hard!  Our training leader ‘J’, his name redacted to protect his identity, has lead the Tuesday and Thursday morning sessions to new heights of hardness and degrees of difficulty.  And yet there is always tender mercy at the heart of ‘J’ as he cunningly designs our morning training courses replete with corners to cut for the vast majority of us merely human paddlers allowing us time to catch up and to challenge ourselves.  There is something for everyone and everyone is accepted, no matter your creed, your colour, your income or how tired, sick or unwashed you are.  Notwithstanding I suspect ‘J’ will get even harder next week as there are many ocean and harbour races coming up.  More corners please ‘J’!
Some upcoming dates of interest:  the Bondi to Rose Bay Ocean Classic on 26 October 2019 , the North Bondi Surf Ski Classic on 19 October 2019, and on the same date Lion Island Challenge at Pittwater.
This Saturday we see what will possibly be and is expected to be the greatest Time Trial ever.  Please come and join us for feverish paddling and hot showers to follow.  8am at the Rose Bay beach. The SIP course always takes into account prevailing conditions, and the abilities and safety concerns of all paddlers.  More southerlies are expected, with 10 – 15 knots of excellent winds pushing us all faster and to greater heights.  Come on down, you are wanted, valued and appreciated.   Are you paddle curious – come join ‘the Borg’!
