WSC Paddlers have been busy training hard for several forthcoming events. This weekend sees some driving to the Gold Coast to race there, where the Gold Coast Ocean Paddlers Club hosts the annual “Gold Coast Classic Ocean Race.” This event is an exciting paddling race for all Ocean Ski, Stand up, Prone and Outrigger paddlers, with race competitors travelling along the picturesque Gold Coast coastline from the Southport Seaway.
Many others are opting to stay in Sydney and compete in the local Spit to the Zoo race, hosted by Middle Harbour Yacht Club. This is a sister event to the local Tingira Challenge, hosted by SIP. This race holds the record for number of entrants at over 270 paddlers and always proves popular with paddlers form northern and southern paddlers alike. Entries have now closed, but a field of a dozen or so will race the 16km down Middle Harbour, around Middle Head, to Taronga Zoo and back. Conditions look excellent with a 16-20kt Westerly forecast, giving a solid hit out for the race out to the top mark, followed by a great run home.
And as usual paddlers will have their 8am Time Trial on Saturday from Rose Bay beach, and this Saturday’s TT is set to be the best TT ever, with some stiff winds and hot showers to follow.
WSC wishes all paddlers good luck for a safe weekend with great results.
