2008 Schools State Team Racing Championship
Racing was held over the 25th-27th April at Woollahra sailing club for the 2008 NSW School State Team racing championships. Sailing RS Fevas and Pacers the sailors from 8 schools put on a magnificent exhibition of sailing skills.
Each team sailed each other twice in the full round robin enabling every team the opportunity to reverse an earlier loss and also to sail each team in the different classes of boat. After day 2 the teams were split into two mini leagues, a gold and a silver and a double round robin was held again in glorious sunshine and a fresh breeze. The benefit of this was that it allowed teams of equal standards to race against each other so maximising the benefits of the racing for all competitors.
Unfortunately due to time constraints it was not possible to run a silver fleet knock out series, but it meant that the silver fleet sailors were able to watch some excellent team racing when the stakes were high.

Knox won their semi final convincingly and it appeared to be their regatta, especially as Cranbrook just scraped through in their semi-final against local rivals Scotts.
In the finals the first race was won by Cranbrook, and this was then levelled by Knox making it all to play for in the final race. A 1-2 sail away by School captain Daniel Nixon and Elliot Scali made it a successful defence of their State Title. In the Petite Final Scotts College beat Mater Maria 2-1.
A big thank-you to Bill Pringle and umpire team, Col Chidgey and team, Adam South and Woollahra Sailing club for hosting and running the event including providing the RS Fevas and Scotts and Cranbrook School for loaning the Pacers.
